Corona virus (0.5 points) - Born in 2019 and probably gonna stay for a while. This little virus caused a textbook pandemic worldwide.
   
Swine flu virus (1 point) - Started spreading in 2009 and ended in 2010. This illness infected around 11% to 21% of the world's population. However, the fatality rate was very low.
   
Rhino virus (2 points) - The next time you have a runny nose and a sore throat, this little virus probably caused it.
   
Influenza virus (4 points) - Similar to the common cold but considered to be more severe. Fortunately, we have vaccines for this virus, which comes and goes every year.
   
SARS virus (8 points) - Stands for severe acute respiratory syndrome. This is actually another strain of the coronavirus. It first appeared in 2002. It infected approximately 8,000 people before disappearing in 2004.
   
Rubella virus (16 points) - This virus signature is a rash spreading from your face to the rest of the body and lasts for three days.
   
Measles (25 points) - A highly contagious virus. Nine out of 10 people who are exposed to the virus can catch it if they are not immune. Fortunately, we have a vaccine for this one.
   
Variola virus (50 points) - This is a nasty virus that causes smallpox. Thanks to a worldwide vaccine program carried out by the World Health Organisation, this virus became extinct in 1980.
   
Spanish flu (100 points) - A strain of the well-known H1N1 influenza virus that caused havoc from 1918 to 1920. It infected 500 million people worldwide. Although it is called the Spanish flu, the first cases were reported in the United States, France, Germany, and the UK.
   
West nile virus (150 points) - First discovered in 1937 in Uganda. This mosquito-transmitted fever is now widespread in the entire world.
   
Anthrax (200 points) - Caused by the Bacillus anthracis bacteria. An estimated 2,000 people get infected each year. Sadly, some countries hold this bacteria as a biological weapon.
   
E-coli (400 points) - Suprisingly, this bacteria is part of your gut microbiology. However, some strains cause a disease which usually leads to diarrhea.
   
Ebola (800 points) - This dangerous virus is transmitted in nature by bats. Its name was derived from the Ebola river in Sudan, where it was first identified in 1976.
   
Rabies (1500 points) - A virus that can change one's behavior. Usually transmitted by animal bite. The disease is fatal, but fortunately a vaccine is available and can protect a person even after a bite.
